In the world of consoles, Sony’s big contender is Microsoft. Nintendo is still very successful, but it has in a sense developed a unique niche for itself. Nonetheless, here is a fact which is going to blow your mind. In 2018, Sony’s revenue just from PSN surpassed all of that Nintendo brought in.
Just How Impressive Was PSN Revenue in 2018?
To give you a feel for PSN’s amazing revenue in 2018, here are some tweets which industry analyst Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners provided.
Once again the big highlight for Sony's Game & Network services segment continues to be the Network services part.

Total network services revenue in 2018 was 1373 billion yen, which is around $12.5 billion.
Once again, revenue generated from Sony’s Network services (PSN) in 2018 is higher than Nintendo’s total revenue for 2018.
Shows just how meaningful this is.
Everyone’s favorite chart again.
Really shows how significant revenues generated from PSN are, especially since PS4 launched. Also shows just how far Nintendo have to go. Despite the boost last quarter from Switch Online, Nintendo digital revenue is still tiny.”
Nintendo Switch is growing to be sure. The service currently has about 8 million subscribers. Of course, that number seems small compared to the 36 million subscribers on PS Plus Sony now boasts.
In any case, both Nintendo and Sony are well-positioned to take on the challenges of 2019. Be sure to keep up with our PlayStation news so that you do not miss a single headline.
