AMC’s live-action adaptation of The Walking Dead just ended its eighth season with a final episode this past weekend, and it went out with a bang. A special promotion called “Survival Sunday’s Battlegrounds” found teams from The Walking Dead and Twitch working together to put on a promotional stream where players duked it out in PUBG’s zombie mode. One team represented The Walking Dead, and the other repped the shorter spin-off series Fear the Walking Dead as they battled for supremacy.
Twitch streamers Sacriel, ChocoTaco, Anthony_Kongphan, iiJERiiCHOii, VernNotice, GoldGlove, JoshOG and Fairlight_Excalibur all took part in the stream, which you can see replayed live via JoshOG’s stream below.

Viewers were able to join the game as members of the shambling hordes of undead working to tear the streamers to shreds. The streamers had tons of weapons and gear at their disposal, but those playing as zombies were relegated to using melee attacks only. This lead to some interesting tension between the two parties, as you can imagine.
The tournament ran for several hours, culminating in the Fear the Walking Dead’s season four premiere, followed by The Walking Dead’s season finale. During the stream, AMC included several new trailers for forthcoming episodes of both series, and fans kept the momentum going by making sure the Twitch chat was jumping.
Pinball streamer Dead_flip and ESPN’s Scott “Coltrane” Cole were on hand to provided commentary during the knock-down, drag-out battle, as the stream attracted a decent amount of players while it sat in the top spot on Twitch’s homepage during its duration. Given the event’s popularity and viewers’ fascination with zombies and The Walking Dead, it wouldn’t be surprising if we end up seeing another similar stream like this one in the future. In the meantime, you might want to brush up your PUBG skills if you’re interested in participating next time.
