PUBG Corp. has revealed a feature several users have been clamoring for: The ability to select which map you want to play on ahead of jumping into a game. That’s right – a map selection screen is in the works, and it’s finally coming to fruition, though there isn’t a release date just yet.
The map selection screen will feature checkboxes for you to tick so you can choose which maps you want to play. If there’s a map you don’t want to play, you can simply un-toggle it from the menu. If you end up checking more than one map, the game will randomly assign a map for you to play on when you start up a new match.
The ability to select which map you want to play won’t affect how matchmaking works, however. Thanks to some dedicated analysis from PUBG Corp. in terms of scanning millions of matches, it was determined that there shouldn’t be any discrepancies among player counts, even those on servers whose populations are typically low. So if you’re feeling those worries creep up about being forced to play with a small population of people because you prefer Miramar over Erangel, your worries should be put to rest.
“Ultimately, we created a version of map selection that we think is unlikely to cause issues for matchmaking. That said, we’ll still have to keep a close eye on it, since it could become problematic as new maps continue to be added,” PUBG Corp. said.
Luckily, there are at least two new maps in the works for PUBG coming down the pipeline, with one placed in Asia and the other in Russia, though is typical of PUBG updates, we don’t know exactly when we can expect to see those new map options heading to the game. As soon as we know more, you’ll know as well.
