Now that we know Rage 2 is definitely happening, Bethesda has wasted no time in revealing what sorts of goodies players will be able to secure by pre-ordering the game ahead of launch.
According to Rage 2’s GameStop store page, those who pre-order the game will be able to access an exclusive in-game mission called Cult of the Death God that will pit players against a cult of fanatical mutants. Interestingly enough, the deified image that the mutants worship is that of Nicholas Raine, the protagonist of the original Rage. If players manage to disrupt the cultists’ plans and defeat their secret weapon, a massive mutant known as the Abadon Warlock, they’ll be able to unlock a trio of exclusive gear items including a Nicholas Raine armor set, the Settler’s Pistol weapon, and the Mutant Monster Truck vehicle.
The Cult of the Death God pre-order bonus doesn’t appear to be a GameStop exclusive, so you’ll likely receive it no matter where you pre-order the game from. At the time of this writing, it looks like the only places you can pre-order Rage 2 are GameStop and Amazon, though that will likely change in the coming months, especially since Bethesda doesn’t plan on releasing the sequel until sometime in 2019. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, pre-ordering from Amazon is definitely the better option since your Prime discount cuts the pre-order price from $60 down to $48.
In Rage 2, players will take on the role of a wasteland survivor named Walker as they venture across the game’s post-apocalyptic landscape and do battle with hostile humanoid and mutant adversaries. Much like its predecessor, Rage 2 will feature chaotic weapon and vehicle-based combat, and it will also contain a number of different NPC factions, each with their own aesthetic themes and unique personalities. The sequel is being jointly developed by id Software (the studio behind Doom and the original Rage) and Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios.
