Rage 2’s List Of Compatible Platforms Includes A…Sega Dreamcast?

The official Rage 2 Twitter account recently tweeted out a rather surprising announcement. Publisher Bethesda is giving away a custom Sega Dreamcast which can run the upcoming shooter sequel. Yes, a Sega Dreamcast, as in the now-defunct game console which originally launched back in 1999.

But how could a two-decade-old console possibly run a modern game like Rage 2?Well, as you might have already guessed, the Dreamcast that Bethesda is giving away isn’t actually a Dreamcast.

Bethesda revealed in a follow-up tweet that the Rage 2 “Dreamcast” is actually a mini-PC housed in a Dreamcast shell. According to the giveaway contest rules, the mini-PC is valued at $590 USD. The PC’s exact specs weren’t revealed, but at $590 in value it’s likely packing some pretty solid under-the-hood parts. They’re good enough to run Rage 2 at least, which means the PC can likely also run other high-end games.

Scrolling through the original tweet’s comments, fans seem quite divided on the whole affair. Some are ecstatic about the idea of getting to use a PC that’s modeled after a beloved gaming console. Others are upset that Bethesda and id Software apparently “ruined” a perfectly good Dreamcast to create the PC. Regardless of individual fan reactions, the custom Rage 2 Dreamcast is undeniably cool to look at.
