During yesterday’s Rainbow Six Siege Pro League Finals, the Siege design team was on hand to make a full unveiling of the game’s upcoming Operation Para Bellum update, including the unique new gadgets that will be wielded by the update’s two new playable operators.
Last week, Ubisoft teased fans with a series of previews for Operation Para Bellum’s two new operators, Alibi and Maestro, both of whom hail from the Italian Gruppo Intervento Speciale (G.I.S.). The previews didn’t disclose the unique new gadgets that Alibi and Maestro would be bringing to the game, but now we know exactly what those gadgets are.
Alibi’s gadget is called the Prism, and it allows her to deploy up to three holographic decoys of herself. The decoys don’t move, but if an enemy player shoots or runs through a decoy, their position will be temporarily revealed to all defenders. The decoys can rematerialize after being shot, but the base of each decoy can be destroyed with bullets, explosives, melee attacks, or a shock from Twitch’s drone. IQ and Thatcher can also counter the decoys with their respective gadgets, so Alibi players have to be wary if the attacking team is bringing those operators into the fight.
As for Maestro, his gadget is the Evil Eye, a deployable turret with a built in camera and the ability to fire laser beams at enemies. Maestro can deploy up to two Evil Eye turrets per round, and each turret comes equipped with a shield that makes it immune to all forms of damage except for explosions and Sledge’s hammer. However, Maestro has to manually control a turret to get it to fire its lasers, and shooting lasers requires the lowering of the shield, making the turret vulnerable to all damage types. If a turret is deployed near an objective, it will have to be destroyed before the attackers can secure the objective, allowing the defenders to buy a little time if the attackers are being overly aggressive.
Stay tuned for more information on Rainbow Six Siege’s Operation Para Bellum update. The update doesn’t yet have a final release date but Ubisoft says it should launch sometime in June, 2018.
