Operation Burnt Horizon, the first major Year 4 content update for Rainbow Six Siege, is now live on all platforms. Burnt Horizon includes, among other things, two new operators, a new map, a Newcomer playlist, and more.
Rainbow Six Siege Operation Burnt Horizon Highlights
Operation Burnt Horizon’s two new operators, Mozzie and Gridlock, hail from Australia’s SASR Mobility Platoon. Gridlock is a one-speed, three-armor attacker armed with a unique Trax Stingers gadget. When deployed, Trax Stingers lay out a cluster of spikes which damage and slow enemy defenders who step on them. As for Mozzie, he’s a two-speed, two-armor defender armed with a Pest Launcher. The Pest Launcher fires Pest drones which can hack and hijack attacker drones.
The new Operation Burnt Horizon map is appropriately titled Outback and set in the Australian backcountry. Specifically, the map is an evacuated roadside station with three distinct sections. Each of these sections has a color-coded theme which should help players recognize them even at a distance.
To help ease newer players into Siege, Operation Burnt Horizon also includes a Newcomer playlist. This playlist is available to players under level 50 and features a simple, easy-to-understand map and mode setup. Changes have also been made to the Casual and Ranked playlists to better clarify their intended use. The Casual playlist is now more of a middle ground between Newcomer and Ranked.
Rounding out the Operation Burnt Horizon update are new weapon skins, an Elite skin for Hibana, and balancing tweaks. You can check out a video preview of the Elite Hibana skin below. A full breakdown of Operation Burnt Horizon’s balancing tweaks and features can be found here.
Operation Burnt Horizon is just the start of Rainbow Six Siege’s expansive Year 4 content schedule. In fact, some hidden clues in a recent CGI trailer may have tipped Ubisoft’s hand a bit early.
