Hot on the heels of Rainbow Six Siege’s 2.2 patch, Ubisoft has now confirmed the game’s next major seasonal update will be called Operation Grim Sky. Among other things, Grim Sky will introduce two brand new operators and a major rework for an existing Siege map to the seasoned tactical shooter.
For now, Ubisoft is keeping most of the details regarding Operation Grim Sky close to the vest, though it did share a few interesting tidbits via this new post on the Rainbow Six Siege website. According to the post, Operation Grim Sky’s new Defender will be a female operator who hails from Great Britain’s police force. Here’s Ubisoft’s synopsis of the character:
“She’s a tough police officer who’s an expert on mob behavior and snatch-squad tactics. She knows she belongs on the front line and she won’t tolerate any nonsense.”
As for the new Attacker, the post says that it will be a male operator hailing from the United States. In addition to having a penchant for surgical precision, he is also apparently a big fan of the city of Kabul:
“He has seen the worst in Kabul. Despite it all, he fell in love with the city. Legendary for his surgical precision, he remains an enigma within Rainbow Six.”
Fans have already started theorizing on what each of the new operators’ unique gadgets may be. The above image appears to show the Attacker with some sort of blow torch, suggesting he’ll be able to breach tough defenses in a more precise (and less loud) manner than existing operators like Hibana and Thermite. Sadly, the tease also appears to nix the rumors that the new operator would be none other than Ghost Recon Wildlands’ Nomad since a blowtorch isn’t part of Nomad’s kit.
As for the new Defender, she appears to be holding some sort of electricity-infused barricade, suggesting that she’ll be able to physically block attackers from proceeding through narrow passageways and choke points. Along with the new operators, Operation Grim Sky will also include a rework of the existing Siege map Hereford Base, a map that has been part of Siege since its original launch.
We won’t have to wait long to learn more about Operation Grim Sky as Ubisoft plans to fully unveil the upcoming update during the Rainbow Six Siege Paris Major which is set to be held from August 17-19.
