Rainbow Six Siege’s Operation Grim Sky Update Will Include New Operator Tweaks

The headlining features of Rainbow Six Siege’s upcoming Operation Grim Sky update will be a pair of two brand new playable operators, one of whom has already been revealed. However, the upcoming update will also come with a series of under-the-hood changes as well, changes which will affect a number of existing operators and their unique gadgets.

According to this recent Designer’s Notes post on the Rainbow Six Siege website, both Thatcher and Twitch will have their gadgets tweaked once Operation Grim Sky is live.

Specifically, Thatcher’s EMP Grenades will no longer outright destroy defender cameras and will instead merely disable them temporarily. This will apply to all forms of defender cameras, including standard security cameras, bulletproof cameras, Maestro’s Evil Eye camera turrets, and Valkyrie’s camera system. Ubisoft plans to implement additional changes to Thatcher in the near future (making him more viable overall), and this change to his EMP Grenades lays the groundwork for future reworks.

Thatcher's EMP Grenades will no longer outright destroy Valkyrie's cameras.

As for Twitch, her Shock Drone will now emit slightly more noise when in use since defending players would often have trouble hearing the drone approach. Ubisoft was careful to note that the Shock Drone will still be quieter and more discreet than standard drones, but players who are paying careful enough attention will have an easier time picking up on the drone’s unique audio cue.

Other under-the-hood changes coming in the Operation Grim Sky update will include a fix for the current issue that causes fired bullets to hit a slightly different area from where the player’s reticle was pointing when shooting automatic weapons. Ubisoft says the issue is caused by a discrepancy between the current weapon recoil system and how weapons interact with the player’s field of view. Once the update is live, a player’s field of view will no longer be affected by the weapon they wield, thus eliminating the issue.

Ubisoft closed out the post by saying that the recent changes it made to the operator Finka have increased her overall win delta, and the studio will continue to monitor her performance to see if any additional tweaks need to be made. Also, the win deltas for both Frost and Kapkan have inexplicably risen over the past few weeks, so now all your Frost and Kapkan mains out there have some hard evidence to show when justifying your operator loyalties.
