Raven Software Bans Over 150,000 Call of Duty: Warzone Accounts

Earlier today, Raven Software announced another major wave of account-bans for Call of Duty: Warzone, purging around 50,000 accounts from the battle royale title. The announcement comes just days after more than 100,000 accounts were banned in a sweeping attack on cheaters and cheat-providers.

The Latest Call of Duty: Warzone Ban Crackdown

“Another Warzone ban wave today!” writes Raven Software, on social media; “Banned 50,000 accounts targeting cheaters and cheat providers. More to come”.

Call of Duty Warzone 150,000 Bans

This latest round of bans is the second to occur in the last week, following a much larger ban wave on the 25th of August. On that day, Raven Software announced that more than 100,000 accounts had been banned the day before. According to Raven, both of these waves of bans were specifically targeting repeat-offending cheaters and cheat providers; “at the source.”

Given that Raven ended their latest announcement with the words; “more to come,” Warzone players may be able to expect another wave of bans in the coming days. Altogether, these are one of the largest single attacks against cheaters in recent months, wiping out a huge chunk of offending accounts. Of course, eliminating 150,000 accounts does not mean removing 150,000 cheaters from the game. At least some, if not many, are likely to be duplicate accounts. Nonetheless, 150,000 accounts removed is a huge step forward.

Earlier this year, Raven and Treyarch carried out a series of ban-waves across Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. During that period, Activision revealed that 475,000 permabans had been issued in Warzone since launch. That number has now grown considerably. Unfortunately, while these latest bans are primarily for cheating, that isn’t the only reason accounts get banned. Three months ago, the Call of Duty anti-toxicity team revealed that more than 350,000 Call of Duty accounts had been banned in the last year for toxic behaviour or racism.
