The battle royale fever may have died down a bit, but Red Dead Online is keeping the torch flame lit. One of the online component’s competitive game modes involves a last-player-standing scenario which should look familiar to battle royale fans. Even better, the mode is playable in Red Dead Online’s recently launched beta.
Red Dead Online Battle Royale Mode
The mode in question is Red Dead Online’s ‘Make it Count’ competitive mode. Make it Count is a free-for-all mode in which players duke it out until only one player is left alive. Each match also features one of four iconic locations from RDR2’s story mode:
- Stillwater Creek
- Tall Trees
- Strawberry
- Saint Denis Plantation
There are a few unique twists to be aware of when playing Make it Count. For one thing, the mode prohibits all firearm use. In fact, all players can only use a single weapon type which is determined by the match location. If you’re playing in Tall Trees or the Saint Denis Plantation, you can only use the bow and arrows. Those playing in Strawberry or Stillwater Creek, meanwhile, can only use throwing knives.
During each match the play area also shrinks over time, forcing players into direct conflict. This element brings Make it Count more in line with traditional battle royale games like Fortnite or PUBG. However, the lack of firearms means that players can’t simply spray bullets and hope for a lucky hit. If you want to succeed in Make it Count, you’ll have to balance patience and cunning with quick reflexes.
Meanwhile, if you can’t access Red Dead Online, we’ve got a primer on how to solve the mode’s common errors. The mode is still in an early beta form so some growing pains are to be expected. The beta launch will be fully available to all RDR2 players come this Friday, November 30.
