Today, Xbox Game Pass gained three new titles, but the headliner is, without a doubt, the addition of Red Dead Redemption 2. Taking up the spot of GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 is now available to download and play through the Xbox subscription service, though only on console, not on PC. However, it’s currently unknown how long the critically-acclaimed title will remain on Game Pass.
Red Dead Redemption 2 on Xbox Game Pass
Alongside DayZ and MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on Game Pass as of today. GTA 5 has been available on the service for some time. However, Rockstar’s latest title is now taking its place. Gamers should note that full access to Red Dead Online is available through Xbox Game Pass too. Rockstar announced that the game would be coming to Game Pass two weeks ago, although neither Rockstar nor Microsoft have indicated how long the game will remain on the platform.
With the arrival of Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V has been removed from the Game Pass library. As such, it’s possible that Rockstar may swap the two games over again in a few months’ time. It’s worth noting that Microsoft provided a 20% discount on GTA V for anybody playing it via Game Pass before the game left the library. Red Dead Redemption 2 players who pick it up in the coming weeks should bear in mind that such a discount is likely to be applied prior to the game leaving the service, whenever that might be.
Red Dead Redemption 2 could very well be the highest-profile title to come to Xbox Game Pass in 2020. Of course, a small number of new releases have come to the service immediately at launch. However, none so far have been as close to as critically-acclaimed as the last Red Dead. The game is the winner of more than 250 perfect scores and 175 Game of the Year awards; making it one of the most highly-awarded games in history.
