Red Dead Redemption 2 Camera: How to Use the Camera to Take Pictures In-Game

A lot of AAA games these days have dedicated photo modes and Red Dead Redemption 2 is no different. In order to access the photo mode, you will need the Red Dead Redemption 2 camera. This old-school camera is your gateway to taking pictures of anything and everything. Yes, that includes some Wild West cowboy gang selfies if you’d like.

First and foremost, you are going to need to have the Red Dead Redemption 2 camera unlocked. To do this, you will need to have completed the first chapter of the game and made it to the first official camp. Here, the world opens up and frees you to do whatever you’d like. It’s also when you first have access to the camera.

With that prerequisite out of the way, we can use the Red Dead Redemption 2 camera. Once you are ready, open up the weapons wheel by holding L1 or LB depending on your console. Use R1 or RB to navigate over to the items tab from there. On the wheel, you’ll see an old-fashioned camera. Equip that and it will be time to take some photos.

Unfortunately, since there is a Red Dead Redemption 2 camera, it’s not your typical photo mode. It’s far more “realistic” so it’s basically anything Arthur can physically take a picture of with the camera. For those of you wondering, yes, you can actually take “selfies” or a self-portrait as Red Dead Redemption 2 classfully calls it.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 camera itself has some realistic options like nice zooming options. It also allows you to make sure that the picture won’t turn out blurry and poor-looking. If this doesn’t satisfy your photo mode cravings, you can certainly just use the Xbox One or PS4’s built-in screenshot features for those perfect shots.
