Red Dead Redemption 2 Developer Hiring for Next-Next Generation Projects

Red Dead Redemption 2 was a tour de force during last year’s launch and will likely remain so into 2019. However, developer Rockstar Games is already looking towards that next great horizon, so to speak. The studio has put up a series of job postings which suggest a new game is in the works. Given Rockstar’s typical development timetable, chances are this next game will launch for the next generation of home consoles.

Rockstar’s Next-Gen Game Project

Gear Nuke first spotted the new job postings which point to several different Rockstar studios. Rockstar New York is in the market for a MoCap Tools Developer and a Technical Face Developer. Over at Rockstar Toronto, they’re looking for a Senior Technical Artist. And finally, Rockstar India has several technical artist job openings which point specifically to “next-gen projects.”

Given the nature of these job openings, it sounds like Rockstar is aiming for an even greater sense of photorealism. That’s a tall order for sure given how impressively detailed Red Dead Redemption 2 already is. Of course, if any studio is up to the task of creating even more highly-detailed worlds, it’s Rockstar.

Red Dead Redemption 2 developer Rockstar is working on a next-gen project.

Current speculation suggests Microsoft and Sony will unveil their next line of consoles in 2020. If that’s the case, Rockstar’s prepping for the new console generation makes sense given how long its development process takes. For context, Red Dead Redemption 2 took roughly a decade to make. Whenever Rockstar’s new project does arrive, the odds are high it will be long after this console generation.

In the meantime, Red Dead Redemption 2 fans still have some stuff to look forward to. The game’s Red Dead Online component will continue to grow over the coming months (and likely years). There’s also hopefully an official soundtrack on the horizon. In just a few months, RDR2 is also poised to sweep the annual GDCA ceremony with an impressive seven nominations.
