Red Dead Redemption 2 is the latest title from Grand Theft Auto developers Rockstar Games. The game is the sequel to 2011’s Red Dead Redemption and focuses on Arthur Morgan, an outlaw and member of the Van Der Linde gang ran by Dutch Van Der Linde. In a recent interview on CNBC, Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games CEO Strauss Zelnick answered questions about the sales of Grand Theft Auto 5 and the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2, including how over 1000 people are working on it.
On this month’s Q4 earnings conference call, Zelnick assured Take-Two investors and stockholders that Red Dead Redemption 2 would certainly not be delayed again, and he reconfirmed that it would be releasing in October in the interview on Mad Money. “Hand on heart, it’s October 26.” he mentioned to Jim Cramer, the host of Mad Money, even going as far as to say “it’s over 1000 people at Rockstar Games with hands on their hearts”.
Zelnick confirming that Red Dead Redemption 2 has over 1000 people working on it goes along with the announcement in an IGN preview that the game was the first one to have every single Rockstar Games studio across the world consolidating into a single project. The game has been in development for 8 years, and is going to be a “Rockstar Games Production” instead of a specific credit such as a “Rockstar San Diego Production” like previous titles from the company have had.
The game having this many staff on it is very important in reassuring fans that Rockstar are taking series other than Grand Theft Auto very seriously and want to make an impact. This is their first actual current-generation game – their only other ones being remasters like Grand Theft Auto 5 and L.A. Noire – and it is near the end of the PlayStation 4, which was confirmed to be at the end of its life cycle. It’s Rockstar’s first game in 5 years since the launch of Grand Theft Auto 5 in September 2013 and has been in development longer than any other Grand Theft Auto game.
Red Dead Redemption 2 brings breathtaking visuals, an all new story-line set before the events of the first game, and has a revamped Artificial Intelligence system which allows the world to live and breathe not just around you, but when you’re not there. It launches October 26, 2018 on PS4 and Xbox One.
