Red Dead Redemption 2: Where to Find All of the Dinosaur Bones

As part of the ‘A Test of Faith’ stranger mission, Red Dead Redemption 2 players must find a strange collectible. Specifically, you have to locate dinosaur bones, 30 of them. To begin the mission, head southeast from Horseshoe Overlook into the Heartlands. Up on a hill you’ll find a flustered archaeologist named Deborah MacGuiness who’ll ask you to find the bones.

Red Dead Redemption 2's dinosaur bones can sometimes be a little hard to spot.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Dinosaur Bone Locations

Bones 1-10

  • 1: In the middle of a grassy field a ways east of Flatneck Station. Head south from the first “A” in “The Heartlands” and you should eventually find the field.
  • 2: On your map, start in the middle of the “R” and “T” in “Heartlands” and travel south. You’ll soon reach a dried up river and at the end of it a bone resting on a large stone.
  • 3: Just to the south of the “A” and “R” in “Heartlands” is an oil platform. Use the platform’s ladder to descent into a nearby cave where you’ll find the bone.
  • 4: This bone is at the middle point between the “S” in “Heartlands” and the “L” in “Lemoyne” on your map. Specifically, the bone is just west of Dewberry Creek, in a patch of dirt adjacent to a grassy region.
  • 5: Go to the “L” in “Lemoyne” on your map and you’ll find the bone surrounded by three boulders.
  • 6: Ride north and slightly west from the “O” in “New Hanover.” You’ll find a hut surrounded by grass and, in front of the hut, a bone.
  • 7: Follow the river north from Elysian Pool. The bone is up on a ravine on the river’s western side.
  • 8: To the southeast of the “R” in “New Hanover” you’ll find a copse of trees. The bone is on the ground amidst those trees.
  • 9: On your map, find the Roanoke Ridge text (it’s just to the south of Brandywine Drop). Just east of the very first “O” in “Roanoke” the bone is up on a cliff above the road.

Bones 10-15

  • 10: Travel east from the “O” in “Ambarino” until you reach the border line between Grizzlies East and Annesburg. You’ll find the bone up on a small hill on that border line.
  • 11: Return to the “O” in “Ambarino” and this time head north and slightly west. You’ll soon reach a large hill with the bone on top of it.
  • 12: Using “Grizzlies East” as a reference, this bone is just southwest of the “S” in “East.” You’ll find the path up the mountain to the northeast and the bone on a pyramid-shaped rock.
  • 13: Just to the west of the “I” in “Ambarino,” this bone is located near the top of a grassy hill.
  • 14: Southwest of Bacchus Station and north of Fort Wallace, this bone is laying on a flat rock on a hill.
  • 15: There’s a series of cliffs northwest of Fort Wallace, across the river. The bone is on the southern cliffside, towards the river.

Bones 15-22

  • 16: Head south of the “C” in “Cumberland Forest” and you’ll soon run into the side of a mountain. The bone is up on one of the mountain’s lower cliffs.
  • 17: Ride northwest out of Valentine and cross the Dakota River. The bone is fossilized into the wall of the southern facing cliff across the river.
  • 18: Head northwest of Valentine again but, instead of crossing the river, climb up the mountain on the town’s northwest border. The bone is lying in a grassy area towards the top of the mountain.
  • 19: Travel southeast from Wallace Station and across the Dakota River. Follow the road around the bend and you’ll spot the bone fossilized into the southeast-facing cliff wall.
  • 20: Ride northwest from Wallace Station and look for a cave that’s just south of the region border. The bone is inside the cave.
  • 21: Just east of the “W” in “West Elizabeth” you’ll find the bone laying in the middle of a wooded road.
  • 22: A little ways south of the first “E” in “West Elizabeth,” this bone is up on a cliff to the side of the road.

Spoiler Warning

The locations of the remaining eight dinosaur bones veer into spoiler territory for Red Dead Redemption 2’s story. You won’t be able to acquire these last few bones until you reach the game’s epilogue.

Bones 23-30

  • 23: South and slightly west of the first “N” in “Hennigan’s Stead.”
  • 24: On the northern bank of the San Luis River, specifically north of the “A” and “N” in “San Luis.” The bone is in a grassy area marked by some bushes.
  • 25: At the top of the mountain at Rio Del Lobo Rock.
  • 26: On a hilltop just south of the “B” in “Rio Bravo.”
  • 27: On a hill located smack in the middle of the “A” and “U” in “New Austin.” The bone can be hard to spot from a distance since it’s covered by bushes.
  • 28: Fossilized on the south-facing cliff wall of the region’s northern border. Head north from the first “S” in “Cholla Springs” to find it.
  • 29: Just south of the “L” in “Tumbleweed.”
  • 30: On a mountain northwest of the final “G” in “Gaptooth Ridge.” The path up the mountain is on its northeastern side.
