Red Dead Redemption 2: Where to Find the Pump-Action Shotgun in RDR2

When it comes to weaponry, Red Dead Redemption 2 players have a plethora of options available to them. The game contains over 50 different armaments, most of which can be customized to better suit your preferred playstyle. For close-quarters engagements, though, few weapons are more ideal than the trusty old pump-action shotgun. In this guide, you’ll learn where to find the pump-action shotgun in Red Dead Redemption 2 and how you can add the pump-action shotgun to your arsenal during the game’s early hours.

Where to Find Red Dead Redemption 2’s Pump-Action Shotgun

There are two methods for acquiring the pump-action shotgun. If you purchased Red Dead Redemption 2’s Special or Ultimate Edition, you can save yourself a lot of hassle. The shotgun is one of the free weapons available to Special/Ultimate Edition buyers and can be found at any gunsmith. If, however, you’re a Standard Edition buyer, the process for finding the pump-action shotgun is a bit more involved.

Firstly, keep playing through the story campaign until you receive a mission from Javier Escuella titled ‘The First Shall Be Last.’ Once you complete the mission, travel over to Valentine and then head north across the Dakota River. You’re looking for a location called Chez Porter which should be northwest of Window Rock. There’s a group of hostile NPC’s camped out at Chez Porter so make sure you come adequately prepared.

Red Dead Redemption 2's pump-action shotgun is found in a Chez Porter cabin.

When all the hostiles are dead, look for a large cabin on the southeast part of the camp. Head inside and up to the back left room on the second floor. Inside the room you’ll find a ladder and at the top of that ladder is a chest containing the shotgun. The chest only spawns if you’ve completed Javier’s The First Shall Be Last mission so make sure that’s done first.

The pump-action shotgun is a powerful weapon, but it can also be quite loud. If you favor a stealthier approach, you’ll want to know how to craft Poison Arrows. Or, if you want, you can simply stir up some trouble with your bare fists.
