CD Projekt Red Launches First Gwent Season Since Leaving Beta

CD Projekt Red has announced the start of the first Gwent season since the game officially left beta with the launch of the Homecoming update. The Season of Mahakam is the first Gwent season to feature in the game’s new version and layout, and as a result, is different to the previous seasons which players may be accustomed to.

The First New Gwent Season: Season of Mahakam

Yesterday marked the launch of the long-awaited Homecoming update for Gwent; a huge overhaul of the Witcher card game which also brought the game at last out of beta; the game has now officially released. The launch coincided with the release of the new Gwent-based RPG, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. CD Projekt Red certainly hasn’t wasted any time, launching the new Season of Mahakam the very next day.

Brouver Hoog is Making his First In-Game Appearance in Thronebreaker

“Wake up dwarves! Humans lust after our lady-folk!” exclaims CD Projekt Red in their announcement post on the official Gwent website; “Season of Mahakam has officially started! You can check the rewards in the in-game rewards tab. The season will last till November 30th. Nuff gob-flappin’! Let’s get to work!”

In the past, CD Projekt Red has published details of each new season’s rewards on the game’s website. However, the new layout of Gwent introduced by the Homecoming update now includes an easy way to display the current season in-game. As such, players need only go to the rewards tab in the game to see what’s up for grabs this month. The new format should make it easier for players to engage with Gwent seasons going forward. It’s also interesting to note that CD Projekt Red chose to make the new Gwent season the “Season of Mahakam”; the dwarven homeland of Mahakam has now at last featured in a Witcher game with the release of Thronebreaker, where the region is one of five in the new game. The nation’s leader, Brouver Hoog, also makes his first appearance in a game in Thronebreaker.
