Remnant: From the Ashes is the latest title to come from Gunfire Games, the studio behind Darksiders III. Published by Perfect World Entertainment, the game features a grim, post-apocalyptic setting with strong fantasy elements, pitting players against mutated beasts, profane flora, and strange constructs. Indeed, the game has received comparisons to games like Dark Souls for its skill-based gameplay and high level of difficulty. The game launched earlier today, with a final launch trailer.

More specifically, it focuses on the wide and exotic range of monstrous enemies which feature in the game. The title is now available to buy on the PC via Steam and Arc, and on both the PS4 and Xbox One.

According to Gunfire Games, Remnant’s setting portrays a world that has been shattered by extra-dimensional evil; the source of all the strange enemies and writhing roots. Humanity has been reduced to scattered bands of survivors, struggling to stay alive in the ruins of the old world. However, it isn’t just Earth that players will explore; the humans have the technology to open up alternate realities and other dimensions. Players will be sent through to explore these alien realms in order to locate the source of the evil consuming their world.

Mechanically-speaking, Remnant is a third-person shooter with both RPG and survival elements. Dark Souls fans should feel right at home, with combat often revolving around well-timed dodges and strikes. Unlike Dark Souls, Remnant features both melee weapons and firearms, with different character classes giving players access to different weaponry and equipment. The game also features cooperative play, allowing teams of players to explore the game together.
