With the launch of the Resident Evil 2 remake’s Ghost Survivors DLC, players can now experience several new side-adventures. The second of the DLC’s three playable scenarios is called Runaway and stars Katherine Warren, daughter of Raccoon City’s mayor. In this guide, we’ll give you some vital intel for safely steering Ms. Warren out of Raccoon City.
Resident Evil 2 Runaway Gameplay Tips
If you haven’t done so already, be sure to consult our guide for the No Time to Mourn scenario. Our No Time to Mourn guide contains some key survival strategies which can be applied to Runaway as well. However, there are a few gameplay tips which apply specifically to the Runaway episode.
Shoot Pale Heads in the Chest
The Runaway episode’s unique new enemy type is called the Pale Head. These odd-looking zombies are highly resistant to standard weapon ammunition, but they can be killed with your handgun’s high-caliber rounds. However, high-caliber rounds are also in precious short supply so you have to make your shots count.
A high-caliber headshot can kill a Pale Head, but their jerky movements make landing headshots a bit of a pain. A better strategy is to simply stun a Pale Head with a chest shot and then sprint past them. Chest shots are much easier to land and, if you line them up right, can hit multiple zombies at once.
Stock Up on High-Caliber Handgun Rounds
Along those same lines, you should try to find as many high-caliber handgun rounds as you can. They’ll certainly come in handy during the final sprint into the RPD jail cells (lots of Pale Heads). Having a few spare rounds can also help in dealing with the three Lickers in the basketball court.
Light ‘Em Up
When you reach the bus right outside the orphanage, a whole bunch of zombies will shamble down to greet you. Fortunately, you should have found a Chemical Flamethrower on the zombie in the previous orphanage courtyard. One of the bus zombies has an item pack and that item pack contains a fresh flamethrower fuel canister. This means that, as long as you kill the pack zombie, you can fry the bus zombies essentially for free.
The Pale Backpacker
In the large outdoor area right before the ramp down into the parking garage is a backpack-holding Pale Head. If you can spare the high-caliber rounds, the Pale Head’s pack contains an optional key. You can then use this key to take the side route in the jail cells. This allows you to avoid most of the zombies in the main jail cell passageway. Just note there’s a lone Pale Head in the side passage so be prepared to fight or move quickly.
