Resident Evil 2: How to Unlock All Alternate Costumes

The list of unlockables contained in the Resident Evil 2 remake is surprisingly long. Players can unlock a litany of different bonuses including new playable characters and infinite ammo weapons. Some of the easier rewards to unlock are alternate outfits for protagonists Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield. In this guide, we’ll explain how you can unlock all of Leon’s and Claire’s alternate looks.

Resident Evil 2 Unlockable Costumes

Leon and Claire each have a total of six different costumes they can wear in the game. Sadly, some of those costumes are locked behind Resident Evil 2’s Deluxe Edition DLC. If you didn’t purchase the Deluxe Edition of Resident Evil 2, you can pay $10 to upgrade. The Deluxe Edition also includes some other in-game goodies including a retro soundtrack and some bonus weapon alternates.

As for the costumes, here’s what purchasing the Deluxe Edition upgrade unlocks:

  • Noir Leon
  • Arklay Sheriff Leon
  • Noir Claire
  • Military Claire
  • Elza Walker Claire

The Deluxe Edition costumes are pretty self-explanatory. The Noire costumes dress Leon and Claire up as 1940’s-style gangsters (Claire even sports some fashionable high heels). The Arklay Sheriff costume, meanwhile, give Leon a little more clout thanks to his sheriff’s badge and matching hat. Military Claire is sporting a S.T.A.R.S. patch in honor of her brother Chris. And finally Elza Walker Claire is actually based off an unreleased prototype character from the original 1998 Resident Evil 2.

Resident Evil 2 unlockable costumes

Speaking of the original Resident Evil 2, beating the remake once unlocks a retro costume set. These costumes dress Leon and Claire up in duds that more closely resemble their 1998 outfits. Claire’s rocking short-shorts, Leon’s got his shoulder pads back, it’s wonderful.

Also, when you finish the game as a specific character, you unlock even more costumes. Finishing a scenario as Leon unlocks the “injured” variant for his standard police outfit along with a casual costume. Claire, meanwhile, gets a “tank top” costume which is basically just her default costume sans jacket. Claire only gets one costume versus Leon’s two because Leon only has two Deluxe Edition costumes to Claire’s three. When you add all the costumes together, both characters balance out at six costumes total apiece.
