Fans of Resident Evil 2’s powerful Lightning Hawk magnum will soon be able to purchase a real-life airsoft equivalent. The only caveat is that they have to live in Japan to do so.
Resident Evil 2 Lightning Hawk Airsoft Gun
Manufactured by Japanese airsoft company Marui, the Lightning Hawk airsoft gun is modeled after Leon’s iconic Resident Evil 2 magnum. Marui’s version even comes complete with a pair of swappable barrels. Users can switch between the standard barrel and a 10-inch long barrel variant. The long barrel is also based off the Lightning Hawk long barrel attachment players can find in the game.
Specific details about Marui’s Lightning Hawk are scarce at the moment, but we still know a few key facts. Marui is planning on releasing the Lightning Hawk airsoft gun next month as part of a special limited run. Pricing hasn’t yet been announced but fans can expect to pay a premium given the airsoft magnum’s limited nature. Aside from Japan, Marui doesn’t plan on releasing the airsoft magnum in any other regions.
This is far from Marui’s first stab at recreating an iconic video game firearm in airsoft form. Marui has collaborated with Capcom specifically several times in the past to create video game-themed weapons. Some of Marui’s past releases include Chris Redfield’s Samurai Edge pistol and Leon Kennedy’s SIG P226 from Resident Evil 6. The airsoft company even made airsoft versions of Dante’s Ebony and Ivory pistols from Devil May Cry.
Previous Marui video game creations had a USD price equivalent of hundreds of dollars (the Samurai Edge was roughly $244). Again, we don’t yet know the Lightning Hawk’s price, but it likely won’t be cheap. Still, for such an intricately-detailed (and functional) piece of Resident Evil memorabilia, the price might just be worth it.
