Despite it being a relatively young game, the Resident Evil 2 remake already has a thriving fan mod scene. Some mods honor the remake’s legacy while others embrace a sillier side to the zombie apocalypse. A new mod from Nexus Mods user Snipzu definitely falls into the latter category. The mod replaces all of the remake’s zombies with the Tofu model usually reserved for the game’s unlockable Tofu Survivor mode.
Resident Evil 2 Tofu Zombies Mod
Snipzu’s aptly named Tofu Zombies mod is available for download via Nexus Mods. According to the mod’s description, Snipzu was inspired by the Tofu Mode from the 2009 game Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles. In the Darkside Chronicles mode, all of the zombies players encountered were transformed into shambling tofu cubes. Snipzu’s mod does the same thing, only for the Resident Evil 2 remake.
Interestingly enough, Snipzu’s Tofu Zombies mod is also a handy efficiency tool. Because of how it’s constructed, the mod only replaces functioning zombie models with Tofu. This means that only dead bodies which eventually zombify sport the new Tofu models in-game. If a player encounters a standard dead body while using the mod they immediately know it will never zombify. Conversely, if a Tofu body is prone the ground, the player knows it’s not actually dead and can dispatch it.
Even if you just want to mess around with the mod, it still has a lot of novelty value. Watching blocky tofu models flip over through windows or trip and fall is always hilarious. Plus, it can make subsequent playthroughs just a little less stressful. Even when they’re lurching around and trying to eat you, tofu blocks are far more funny than scary.
The current version of the Tofu Zombies does have some minor bugs like despawning and duplicating tofu models. For the most part, though, it’s a stable release which will only improve with future versions. Just make sure you grab FluffyQuack’s mod manager before downloading the Tofu Zombies mod.
