If you thought that yesterday’s series of new Resident Evil 2 remake screenshots looked as if they had been pulled directly from an accompanying gameplay footage trailer, it turns out you were right on the money.
As part of its ongoing Gamescom presentation, Capcom has now released a new in-depth trailer for the Resident Evil 2 remake which, much like the previously unveiled screenshots, focuses on protagonist Claire Redfield. Specifically, the trailer features a series of separate sequences that contain both non-interactive cinematics and actual gameplay. First, we see Claire as she meets the young Sherry Birkin for the first time. Unfortunately, their meeting is quickly interrupted by a terrifyingly monstrous foe who, as Resident Evil fans likely know already, has a personal connection with Sherry.
A bulk of the trailer’s footage is devoted to showing Claire fight the mutated boss encounter using an eclectic arsenal of different weaponry, and it looks like things won’t end too well for players if they let the monster get too close (unless they happen to have a flash grenade on their person). Later on in the trailer, we see Claire and Sherry trying to escape Raccoon City, only to cross paths with a fellow survivor whose intentions seem nefarious to say the least. The trailer ends before any meaningful resolution can be reached, though it seems safe to assume that Claire will find some way to turn the tables in her favor.
Along with Claire Redfield, the Resident Evil 2 remake will naturally allow players to control rookie cop Leon Scott Kennedy, and the new trailer makes it clear that Claire is benefiting greatly from the updated visual designs Capcom has implemented for both protagonists.
During this year’s E3, Capcom announced that the Resident Evil 2 remake will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Jan. 25, 2019.
