Resident Evil 3 Remake Officially Announced by Capcom

Following on from Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 2, which received critical acclaim following its releas back in January, the studio has officially announced that they are working on a Resident Evil 3 remake. The third remake of the series, Resident Evil 3 will release on the 3rd of April, 2020. Moreover, Capcom also revealed that Project Resistance, a spin-off game announced earlier this year, is in fact Resident Evil 3’s multiplayer mode.

The Resident Evil 3 Remake and “Project Resistance”

“Resident Evil 3 returns to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam on April 3rd, 2020,” announced Capcom, earlier today; “Experience Jill Valentine’s encounter with the unrelenting Nemesis in this survival-horror classic remade from the ground up. It also includes Resident Evil Resistance, a new 1 vs 4 asymmetrical online multiplayer game set in the Resident Evil universe. Cooperate as one of four Survivors or as a twisted Mastermind attempting to stop them at every turn.”

Capcom officially revealed the game via a trailer which debuted at Sony’s State of Play event. However, many fans were likely aware that the reveal was coming; after all, a PlayStation Store listing for the game leaked earlier in December. Alongside the official trailer, Capcom also released a six-minute developer message video, which offered more details about the game and its story. This second video also offers fans a more extended look at gameplay in the remake.

According to the developers, Resident Evil 3 will lean more towards action than Resident Evil 2 did. Players will also, of course, have to contend with Nemesis itself. This terrifying foe will apparently have even more ways to pursue players than Resident Evil 2’s Tyrant did. The developer message video also shows off gameplay from Resident Evil Resistance; offering glimpses of how the Mastermind player can spawn enemies and control the environment around the survivors. Although Resistance is described by Capcom as though it were a separate game, it will be included with Resident Evil 3 when it launches on the 3rd of April. A Collector’s Edition of the remake, featuring various extras including a Jill Valentine statuette, will also be available.
