One issue which has been raised by fans in recent weeks is that of an Apex Legends reconnect feature. Largely due to stability issues with the game’s servers, some players have been frustrated by getting disconnected from matches. As such, they have been calling for Respawn to add some sort of a reconnect feature. However, in their latest Check In, the studio has said that they won’t be adding such a feature.
Why Respawn Have no Intention of Adding an Apex Legends Reconnect Feature
Respawn addressed the question of whether they would add some sort of Apex Legends reconnect feature in their latest Reddit ‘Check in’. During that check in, Respawn also revealed that they have banned over 350,000 Apex Legends cheaters. Additionally, the studio addressed fan concerns over crashes and slow server performance. While they have future plans for both of those areas, the studio does not plan to add a reconnect feature.
“We’ve heard the suggestions from you folks asking for a reconnect to match feature,” says the studio; “We are currently not pursuing this for a couple reasons: 1. It opens a lot of risks for players to abuse it. 2. We believe the resources needed to build, test, and release it are better spent focused on fixing stability issues so that the feature isn’t necessary.”
It’s easy to see the potential abuses of an Apex Legends reconnect feature. Unscrupulous players could potentially use artificial disconnections to avoid death or other risk as the match progresses. In any battle royale title, the ability to skip ahead without risk is potentially very problematic. While it wouldn’t necessarily be impossible to implement such a feature, Respawn evidently feels that the cost in time and resources would be too great. Hopefully, the studio’s upcoming stability improvements do reduce the need players feel for a possible reconnect feature.
