With the rapid increase in popularity of Apex Legends, it should come as no surprise that the game has been suffering from server issues. It seems unlikely that either Respawn or EA ever anticipated that their free-to-play battle royale game would attract over 50 million players so quickly. Unfortunately, the companies cannot simply throw money towards more servers. In their latest Check In, Respawn addressed fan concerns over the issue of Apex Legends crashes and slow servers.
Respawn Responds to Concerns Over Apex Legends Crashes and Server Performance
A few days ago, Respawn took to Reddit for their latest ‘Check In,’ where they also revealed that the studio had banned over 350,000 Apex Legends cheaters on PC. However, the studio then turned to the issue of Apex Legends crashes. “Next week AMD will be at the studio,” they explain; “and just like we did with the Nvidia visit, we’ll be working together to improve stability and performance on PC. In the next client patch on PC we will be addressing some of the known crashes, but there will still be work to do as we haven’t nailed down all crashes yet.”
The studio plans to add improvements to the game’s reporting system in Season 1. This will hopefully help players to report, and then Respawn to address, different PC crash problems. The other issue addressed by Respawn is that of ‘Slow Server Performance at the Start of Matches’; something which fans have apparently been reporting.
“We’ve seen these reports and are narrowing down causes and making improvements,” says Respawn; “If this could be fixed by spending money on faster/more servers we would do it, but unfortunately there is no silver bullet on this one. We’re just rolling up our sleeves and digging in. We’ll keep you updated on any progress we make.”
It’s very common for almost every online multiplayer game to run into server issues at some stage, particularly close to launch. Hopefully, Respawn is able to fix these problems without too much trouble. As Apex Legends’ popularity continues to skyrocket, more and more players will potentially be exposed to problems such as these; something of which both Respawn and EA are no doubt aware.
