Respawn Makes Big Changes to the New Apex Legends Map Rotation

Last week, Respawn launched the currently ongoing The Old Ways Lore Event in Apex Legends; a new event format focusing on Bloodhound which brought a new town takeover and more. Alongside the event, Respawn also brought Kings Canyon back to the game for good, while simultaneously launching a new map rotation feature. However, following fan feedback, the studio has had to make some big changes to this feature already.

Changes to the Apex Legends Map Rotation

Responding to fans on Twitter, Respawn recently posted the following; “Last week, we added in map rotation. After taking in all your feedback over the past 7 days, we’ve decided to make some changes to map rotation…” The first and foremost change is the complete removal of the Nighttime Kings Canyon map, while the changes also include a shortening of how long the normal Kings Canyon map is available.

Apex Legends Map Rotation Changes Following Launch 2

When the Apex Legends map rotation feature launched, it included three maps; World’s Edge, Kings Canyon, and the nighttime variant of Kings Canyon which first featured in last year’s Halloween event. However, it seems that the latter has proven quite unpopular among fans as a permanent addition. Given Respawn’s normal strategy for content releases, the map is now likely to be an occasional, temporary addition, rather than something available through the standard rotation.

According to Respawn, the developers are hoping that these changes; “will allow players the chance to keep grinding that Season 4 Battle Pass or try their skills at the new Bloodhound Town Takeover”. If players do want to play Kings Canyon especially, the map is still available in the current Ranked Series. Following the series’ half-way split earlier in Season 4, Kings Canyon took over from World’s Edge as the active Ranked mode map. It will remain as such for the rest of the current Apex Legends Ranked Series.
