Shortly after the start of Apex Legends‘ third season, Respawn released the first-ever retail versions of the game; the Bloodhound and Lifeline Editions. Of course, Apex Legends is free to play, so these retail editions don’t actually contain the game. However, they do include exclusive cosmetics and a cache of Apex Coins to help new players get started. Now, Respawn has released a third retail version of the game; the Apex Legends Octane Edition.
What’s in the New Apex Legends Octane Edition
Like the Bloodhound and Lifeline Editions before it, the Octane Edition doesn’t actually contain the game itself. You don’t actually need to buy a retail version of the game to play it, after all. However, it does include 1,000 Apex Coins and four exclusive cosmetics which are only available in the edition. The Violet Widow Gun Charm and Venomous Badge can be used with any Legend, while the other two items are specific to Octane and the Charge Rifle, respectively.
First is the Legendary Arachnoid Charge Rifle skin, which gives the weapon a new purple and silver look. The final cosmetic is the Legendary Arachnoid Rush Octane Skin, which encases the Legend in an insectoid-like full-body suit bedecked with neon purple highlights. All of this is available to buy now for a total cost of $19.99. The Apex Legends Octane Edition is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Origin for PC.
Of course, if you want to get started in Apex Legends with Season 4, you don’t actually need to get a retail edition. However, 1,000 Apex Coins is a sizeable amount, and well-suited to helping players get started. Of course, existing players can also invest in the Octane Edition to get an extra 1,000 Coins, not to mention the exclusive cosmetics. It’s likely to be especially attractive to those who favour playing Octane, of course.
