The second batch of Season One content for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out today, and with it comes a new game mode, making its return after it first featured in Call of Duty: Ghosts; Cranked. This mode is essentially a standard deathmatch but with an explosive twist. Once you score a kill, you have to keep scoring kills or else you’ll detonate. So, here’s everything you need to know about the new Modern Warfare Cranked mode.
How the Modern Warfare Cranked Game Mode Works
At its core, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Cranked game mode is just Team Deathmatch with a 150 point target; the first team to reach 150 points wins. However, the twist is that after you score a kill, a 30-second timer starts. Every time you score a new kill, the timer resets back to 30 seconds, but if you don’t manage to get a kill in time, you explode when the timer hits zero! However, there are a few effects which apply to balance this high-stakes feature.
Once you score a kill and the timer starts, you’ll immediately gain the Amped effect. This means that a whole variety of things get faster; your movement speed, reload speed, weapon swap speed, etc. Additionally, every kill you earn while the timer is active earns you double points. Speed is of the essence in Cranked, but you can’t rush in recklessly; ideally, you want to get a kill and start the timer, then stay alive and score as many kills as you can, earning double points all the while.
While speed is certainly valuable, so is accuracy, and intel. UAVs, for example, are useful for pinpointing enemies so that you don’t waste time running in the wrong direction. It’s also worth noting that, while you don’t get double points for assists, they do still reset your timer. Additionally, every time you hit an enemy, the timer will reset back one second, so even if it looks like time is about to run out, keep shooting to stay alive a little longer.
