Rumor: Next Year’s Call of Duty Game Will Include a Single-Player Campaign

These days it seems like everyone is fixated on multiplayer gaming, to the point where we’re seeing franchises which traditionally include a single-player component leaving it out of their games entirely. Such is the case with this year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, which will lack a traditional campaign.

While some players are okay with that, others are unhappy with the decision to take away an element which has long defined our expectations for the franchise. If you are among the gamers who are resentful about this year’s absent campaign, you will be relieved to learn that there is reason to expect that Call of Duty 2019 will include a campaign.

Infinity Ward has just put up a new posting on its job page calling for a “Narrative Scripter.”

Here is the text from the listing:

“Come work with the game industry’s brightest on a new, exciting, unannounced title for multiple next gen platforms.

In this hands-on role, you’ll collaborate with scripters, sound designers, writers, and directors to implement voice-over performances in-game across a wide variety of player experiences – from combat to set-pieces.”

Under the listed qualifications, it mentions, “a strong desire to bring life to game characters through naturalistic and cinematic implementation of vocal performance.”

Now, none of this actually proves anything. In theory, this could refer to other game modes, but words like “cinematic” certainly seem evocative of the traditional single-player campaign experience we would expect from an Infinity Ward COD game.

It’s also worth pointing out that the listing doesn’t actually say “Call of Duty,” but it is the most likely franchise considering it is stated blatantly that will be a first-person-shooter game.

This listing also states something else important. You probably caught it, but in case you didn’t, it is this wording: “a new, exciting, unannounced title for multiple next gen platforms.” That’s right—assuming this is indeed Call of Duty 2019, it will be playable on next generation platforms.
