To a lot of gamers, the pricing for the PS5 has been a pleasant and most welcome surprise. Indeed, it seems likely that the lower-than-expected pricing will bolster sales for the PS5. Combined with the increased demand due to coronavirus, it seems like the PS5 may sell very well, maybe even better than previous PlayStations. Could this be the most successful Sony console to date? According to one analyst, the answer is “yes.”
Could the PS5 Become the Most Successful Sony Console?
Take a look at this tweet regarding a prediction from Japanese analyst Rakuten Securities.
The text says, “Eye-catching report from Japanese analyst (fixed). PS5’s lifetime unit sales may exceed 200mln. PS5 price on par with XsX surprise; thought PS5 be $50-$100 higher due to backward compatibility with PS4 and big PS5 titles. this is free but in Japanese.” The tweet then includes a link that you can follow to read the full report.

That’s right, more than 200 million PlayStation 5 units may sell over the years ahead. To put this in perspective, the PS4 managed after around six years to sell half that. So, is this a realistic prediction? Well, considering it came from a professional analytical firm, it certainly seems plausible. But it may be a bit overly sanguine.
In any case, this report only feeds into the excitement surrounding the upcoming release of the PlayStation 5. The console will be releasing on November 12th, and pre-orders went live the other week. Nonetheless, supplies sold out quickly, and those who were not super fast (and super lucky) are stuck waiting again for the next round of pre-orders.
Will there be additional rounds of pre-orders? We don’t know. Amazon, for example, is already informing customers who pre-ordered that they might receive their PS5 consoles late. It is hard to imagine them accepting more pre-orders if they already are struggling to keep up.
