Rumor: These Are the Specs for PS5, and They Are Mind-Blowing

We know that Sony has a next gen console in the works. Considering the PS4 is only a little more than four years old at this point, it is unlikely we will see the PS5 come out this year (or even next). But rumors are already flying regarding the specs. We’ve even heard that some developers have received dev kits for the new console.

Now it is possible we know the specs for PlayStation 5. Keep in mind that this too is just a rumor at this point. But being as the source of the “leak” is the website SemiAccurate, there is a chance that the information is … well, accurate. The site has a good track record, previously leaking accurate specs for PS4 as well as Switch.

There is a paywall up in front of the full specs. But we can at least give you the highlights, which are as follows:

• The architecture of the PS5 will be based on Navi—but will not be Navi itself.
• Zen will serve as the CPU.
• The report from SemiAccurate further supports the claims we have heard that PS5 devkits have been distributed.
• Given that so many devkits are out there, the report states that a 2018 release is possible.
• VR “goodies” will be fully incorporated with the console. This should make for seamless integration with PSVR.

This is not a whole lot of information, but it is certainly interesting, and a lot of it sounds plausible—at least if we ignore that whole 2018 release date thing. The odds of that happening are tremendously remote. And since SemiAccurate has released correct stats in the past, the report is worth considering seriously, even if we take it with a grain of salt.

Even though we probably won’t be placing orders for PS5 this year, let’s hope there is at least a formal announcement. That in itself with some hints directly from Sony about what we can expect would be plenty awesome.
