You may recall back in the early days of next gen console rumors, we were hearing about two Xbox consoles in development, not just one. The first, Project Scarlett, is obviously on the way. But whatever happened to the second console, dubbed Project Lockhart? Well, it’s been ages since anyone seems to have brought it up, but now we are hearing some brand new speculation about it.
Why Project Lockhart May Still Be a Reality
The rumors about Project Lockhart being still under development come from Kotaku. The site claims to have heard from “four people briefed on the company’s plans.” The article offered some details gleaned from these sources. Reportedly, the Lockhart will feature the same “raw graphical power” as the PlayStation 4 Pro, but like Project Scarlett and PS5, it will contain a solid state drive. Apparently, the CPU will be faster than those in current generation consoles. Further, the Lockhart console will not take discs. Finally, it should be less expensive than the Scarlett. So, for those on a budget who don’t mind streaming and downloading, it could be a great option.
In the same article, another name which we haven’t heard in a while came up, which is Anaconda. This name popped up alongside Scarlett and Lockhart a lot when we first started hearing about next gen Xbox consoles. Now, people are starting to believe that all three of these consoles could get a simultaneous release in the 2020 holiday season.
We will stay on the lookout for more rumors or news concerning both Lockhart and Anaconda. In the meantime, catch up on some of our other Xbox news. We recently found out that VR will not be a focus for Microsoft with the Xbox Scarlett. But we can look forward to more first party exclusives during the next generation.
