Indie developer Ska Studios has announced that its hit 2016 2D Souls-like game Salt and Sanctuary will be coming to the Nintendo Switch platform in early August thanks to a new partnership with the game porting company Blitworks.
According to a press release from Ska Studios co-founders James and Michelle Silva (the husband and wife duo who also developed Salt and Sanctuary all by themselves), the Nintendo Switch version of Salt and Sanctuary will launch on August 2 via the Nintendo eShop. Within the press release, the pair also expressed their gratitude towards existing Salt and Sanctuary fans as well as their excitement over bringing a fresh wave of new players into the game’s grim and violent world:
“The two of us wanted to create a Souls-like game that we wanted to play, and finding that so many others who wanted it too warmed our dark little hearts. Bringing Salt and Sanctuary to the Nintendo Switch means more people who like dismal, satisfying games can play our very dismal, satisfying game.”
Salt and Sanctuary’s Nintendo Switch version will cost $18 at launch, and Ska Studios also had more good news for those who prefer to own physical copies of their favorite games. Later this year, Salt and Sanctuary will be getting a physical retail release called Salt and Sanctuary: Drowned Tome Edition. A specific release date for the Drowned Tome Edition hasn’t yet been nailed down, but Ska Studios promises more information should be coming soon.
Naturally, Salt and Sanctuary owes at least some of its success to the Dark Souls series which it so expertly pays homage to. Speaking of Dark Souls, fans should be sure to check out the most recent Dark Souls Remastered patch that specifically aims to get rid of cheaters, as well as the surprisingly robust Dark Souls ASMR scene.
