Following the release yesterday of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare story trailer, Infinity Ward has released a second, follow-up video. This new video gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the trailer. Additionally, it delves further into what the game’s story will include and its playable characters.
The Creation of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Story Trailer
The new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare story trailer gave fans of the series a much more detailed look at what’s coming in the game’s single-player campaign. However, this new video features a variety of developer and consultant interviews which explain key themes, design decisions, and story elements. One of the first aspects which is explained is the story’s premise; “In our fictional country of Urzikstan,” explains Jacob Minkoff, the game’s Singleplayer Design Director; “the superpowers; they can’t fight directly, so instead, they fight through proxies. […] The setup of this game is nerve gas gets stolen and may be in the hands of terrorists, and players need to track it down and figure out who has it before it gets used against us or our allies.”
In addition to the premise, the behind-the-scenes video names the three playable characters. First will be Sergeant Kyle Garrick; “an SAS soldier working counter-terrorism in London“. The second is Alex, a CIA operative working in Urzikstan, and the third is Farah Karim, Commander of the Urzikstan Liberation Force.
Something which the video emphasises throughout is the focus on realism in the game. Several of the people interviewed for the video are ex-military or war correspondant consultants whose experience has informed the design of the game. “We bring our expertise from our careers in the military,” they explain; “and we work with every single department and take experiences we’ve had and apply them. We’re trying to hit every detail.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is due to release on the 25th of October, in just under one month’s time. Before then, fans can no doubt expect several more trailers and pre-launch promotional releases. Indeed, one premiere is already scheduled for the week starting October 7th; a look at the game’s Special Operations mode.
