Not one to let the holiday season pass by, Rare has released a ‘Gilded Gifts’ update for Sea of Thieves. The update is a smaller (yet still substantial) addition to Sea of Thieves’ previously released Shrouded Spoils expansion. Even better, Sea of Thieves players can try out Gilded Gifts right now.
Sea of Thieves Gilded Gifts Update
Gilded Gifts is live as of this writing and will remain live until the first week of January. Players who log into Sea of Thieves during the Gilded Gifts active period will immediately notice a new festive décor. However, Gilded Gifts is more than just a temporary aesthetic change. Players can also embark on one of four new ‘Gilded Voyages’ while the update’s associated event is active.
However, as Rare explained in the Gilded Gifts press announcement, players will have to work for their final rewards:
“Gilded Voyages pose a substantial challenge and must be completed in one sitting, so pirates should decide carefully when to embark upon their voyage after collecting it from Duke in any of the Outpost taverns. Each of these voyages is associated with one of the in-game Trading Companies, and completing one will give crews a bigger boost to their gold and reputation than a standard voyage.”
While most of the Gilded Gifts update may be temporary, the Shrouded Spoils expansion is another matter. Released last month as yet another free expansion, Shrouded Spoils adds a bunch of new features into the game. The expansion’s major highlights include new fog mechanics, new ship customization categories, and new loot rewards for sea monster battles. A full rundown of the Shrouded Spoils expansion is provided in the below video.
Some Shrouded Isles features even cross over with the earlier Forsaken Shores expansion. Rare also recently revealed Sea of Thieves’ first major 2019 content update: The Arena. The Arena brings structured PvP play to Sea of Thieves, allowing skilled crews to prove their competitive mettle.
