Following on from the first playable Beta weekend, the second Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Beta weekend has now begun, giving gamers another chance to try out the upcoming game’s multiplayer. Importantly, this Beta weekend event (it actually spans five days) will be the first opportunity for Xbox One and PC players to give the game a try. Furthermore, it will be the first time ever that crossplay has been available in a Call of Duty title.
The Second Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Beta Weekend
The second Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Beta weekend begins today, on the 19th of September. It will end on the 23rd, in five days’ time. For PS4 users, this entire event is an Open Beta, featuring more content than was available in the first Beta weekend. However, for PC and Xbox One users, the event will begin in an Early Access format. This means that today and tomorrow, only gamers who have pre-ordered the game will be able to play. Late on the night of the 20th, the event will transition to an Open Beta and become available for everyone.
Just like the first event, Activision and Infinity Ward are likely to make more content available each day throughout the event. Indeed, Activision has already revealed that a 62-player mode called Ground War will become available on the 21st. Of course, this will also feature its own, larger-scale map.
The second multiplayer Modern Warfare Beta will also feature crossplay throughout, allowing players on all platforms to play together. Players can choose to opt in or out of crossplay, and the system will automatically filter players by control scheme. (So, players using controllers won’t play against players using keyboard and mouse.) You can find more information about crossplay in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare here. Activision has also hinted that crossplay will change the release scheduling of post-launch content. (i.e., PlayStation will no longer get content ahead of earlier platforms.)
