Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – How to Beat O’Rin of the Water

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has plenty of traditional (and tough) boss encounters like Lady Butterfly and the Blazing Bull. However, peppered in-between those bigger boss fights are various mini-boss encounters that are a cut above standard enemies. One of Sekiro’s tougher mini-bosses is the forlorn yet deadly spirit O’Rin of the Water. In this guide, we’ll explain how you can put O’Rin to permanent rest.

Sekiro: Locating O’Rin of the Water

Sekiro O'Rin of the Water guide

O’Rin of the Water is pretty hard to miss. Late in the Mibu Village portion of the game’s Ashina Depths area you’ll hear soft music playing. The source of the music is a young woman in a kimono playing a lute. When you talk to her, the woman reveals herself as O’Rin and asks you a question. No matter your answer, O’Rin will become upset and attack you, revealing her true nature.

Defeating O’Rin

Players who underestimate O’Rin because of her timid pre-combat nature are in for a rude awakening. Once she pulls out her knife and starts swinging, O’Rin can easily cut you to pieces in short order. O’Rin’s attacks are deceptively fast, and she can phase in and out of reality at certain junctures.

Be careful when you’re on the defensive or trying to heal since O’Rin can quickly dash in and strike. She also has a perilous sweep attack which can be countered with a jump kick with proper timing. Also, since O’Rin is technically a spirit, you’ll need Divine Confetti to inflict consistent Vitality damage. Even without Divine Confetti, though, it’s possible to build up her Posture for a deathblow.

You’ll need to inflict two deathblows to ultimately defeat O’Rin of the Water so keep the pressure on. If you have the Loaded Umbrella prosthetic tool, it can help with deflecting her quick-hitting attacks. Otherwise, just focus on memorizing her attack routines and deflecting as you’re able. Once you best O’Rin in combat, you’ll earn a Prayer Bead for your trouble. You’ll also open the way to the final portion of Mibu Village.
