Get those last Warhawk matches in because Sony is shutting down servers. In an email sent out by PlayStation, they’ve announced that they’ll be shutting down servers for certain PS3 exclusives.
Affected Games
- Warhawk
- Twisted Metal
- PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale
- Sound Shapes
The servers will shut down on January 31st, 2019 at 12:00 AM PT. Here’s what PlayStation had to say about the server shutdowns.
PlayStation’s Statement
“As a result of a physical server location being decommissioned, a service shut down was originally planned for October 25th, 2018, which impacts online access for Warhawk, Twisted Metal, PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale, and Sound Shapes. Upon further evaluation, we have been able to extend the online service for those PS3 titles to January 31st, 2019.”
“Following this shutdown, local network play will still be available for Warhawk when the PS3 system is set to LAN mode. For Twisted Metal and PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale, users can play the campaign offline as well as local (couch) multiplayer in split-screen mode. For Sound Shapes, users will still be able to play the campaign and all DLC purchases as well as create their own levels, however, they will not be able to share their levels with the community or download community created levels.”
Warhawk is a third-person shooter that came to the PS3 in 2007. It focused primarily on multiplayer at the time. Twisted Metal is a reboot of the classic PlayStation franchise. PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale is an attempt at a PlayStation-esque Smash Bros. game. Lastly, Sound Shapes is a musical platformer where you collect notes to complete the song. Sound Shapes is still available on PS4 and PS Vita.
