Shakedown: Hawaii was first announced in 2015 but was unveiled for the Switch just a few months before the launch of the hybrid console and is set to act as a sequel to Retro City Rampage, an open-world action game in the vein of Grand Theft Auto but with nods to the 80s and 90s. Retro City Rampage came out pretty much everywhere, even the PlayStation Vita. But now, thanks to an updated Steam page for Shakedown: Hawaii, it seems that the next game from Vblank Entertainment will be coming sometime this year.
Shakedown: Hawaii is set 30 years after the events of Retro City Rampage and will have an open world, destructible environments, a banging chip-tune soundtrack, and 16-bit visuals – having a leg-up over the 8-bit style of Retro City Rampage. The story revolves around the player coming out of retirement to build a corporate empire by committing white collar crimes, shakedowns, property acquisitions, and just making a complete mess out of Hawaii and its citizens.
If you opt out of doing the story missions that the game has to offer, you can still just cause a ruckus like any person would do in Grand Theft Auto, but with a top-down perspective this time around, and with a more tropical feel than California.
Shakedown: Hawaii is set to release on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, 3DS, PS Vita, and PC, sometime this year according to the Steam page. Shakedown will surely be an excellent addition to the selection of indie titles available on the Nintendo Switch, and the other platforms of course.
