Smash Bros. Creator Shares More Info on Ultimate’s Development

To say that Smash Bros. Ultimate is ambitious would be a massive understatement. It has over 100 stages, 900 music tracks, and over 70 characters. In a new interview with Famitsu (via Siliconera), Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai shares more details about Ultimate’s development.

So Much Music

To start, there will be a total of 34 tracks from the Castlevania series. This a solid number of tracks and it looks like there’s enough representation of the series to keep fans happy. As it was mentioned in the Smash Bros. Direct, there will be over 28 hours worth of music to listen to.

In terms of the game’s development, some stages have taken over a year to develop. This is partly because of the Omega stages and they aren’t as easy to make as they seem. Furthermore, the development team isn’t as big as you’d think. Sakurai’s team only consists of 100 members because that’s the number he capped it at. On top of Sakurai’s development team, Bandai Namco is helping with development on the game.

New Ways to Play

As for some of the modes and options, Sakurai explained Squad Strikes, a new mode for the series. This’ll be an elimination-style mode where you the number of wins required (first to three, five, ten, etc.). A new option to choose from is a charge meter for your final smash. Rather than waiting for the coveted Smash ball, you can have this option on to make things more chaotic. This option is toggled off automatically and can be turned on if you want it.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate comes to the Nintendo Switch on December 7th. Alongside the game, new Amiibo based off Ridley, Inkling, and Wolf. Additionally, if you want to use the GameCube controller at launch, you can buy a Smash themed controller and a GameCube controller adapter. For more information on Smash Bros.
