A number of PS4 games are receiving patches. We are more than halfway through October, and the release of the PS5 is just around the corner. Are these two events related to one another? It certainly seems likely, although we cannot be sure just yet. Let’s take a look at what we do know.
PS4 Games Are Receiving Patches as We Near the Release of PS5
Sony is patching some PS4 games, particularly first-party titles. If it were only relatively recent games receiving patches, we might be tempted to overlook the development. But it isn’t just newer games. There are also patches going out for older titles such as God of War III Remastered.
It doesn’t seem likely that Sony would focus on older games like this one if not for some reason related to PS5. After all, the company has plenty on its plate right now. Plus, patches have gone out for most first-party PS4 games. Such a comprehensive patching job would make sense were it in the context of something like Boost Mode on PS5.
It is easy to picture how this would work. Say, for example, that you decided to pop God of War III Remastered into your PS5 right after you buy it. A patch has already conveniently gone out for the game. If that patch enables you to play the game with Boost Mode in effect, you can get right to enjoying your PS5 God of War III Remastered experience with no delays. You will get to take advantage of the best that PS5 has to offer for your older game rather than waiting for a patch weeks or months down the line to get Boost Mode to work.
If there are any more updates about these PS4 patches or about PS5 Boost Mode, we will let you know in our PlayStation news. Meanwhile, you can catch up on other news, including Sony’s defense of its party chat recording feature for the next gen console.
