Sony recently filed a patent that has been getting a lot of attention from gamers. Most of what is enrapturing everyone at the moment is a picture in the patent rather than the text. What makes it so interesting? It is a PSP image, and nobody knows what it might mean. Let’s take a look!
There is a PSP Image in a Recent Sony Patent
First of all, you can take a look at the patent yourself here. It was published on August 20th. Actually, we reported about it in a previous article where we talked about potential privacy concerns, being as the patent involves a system for identifying users through controllers.
But what users are fixated on right now is the image you see immediately as you scroll down. Look at the far right, and you will notice what looks like a PlayStation Portable (PSP). This seems to be a pretty archaic reference. What is it doing there? Does it hint that Sony is thinking about making a new PSP? Or is it there for some other unrelated reason? It is pretty hard to guess. Right now, anything at all in this direction feels like a big leap, and we don’t want to make assumptions. So, all we can say is that it is definitely mysterious.

We are guessing that pre-orders for PS5 will go live as soon as next week or the week after, but that is pure conjecture. Sony is currently allowing people to register for invites for direct pre-orders. But there is no guarantee that if you sign up, you will be selected. We also don’t know how much of a delay might follow those direct pre-orders before one can pre-order through other retailers. Regardless, we will keep you posted as we learn more in our PlayStation news.
