For months leading up to PS5 pre-orders going live, we heard about how there was going to be elevated demand for the next gen console. We also heard that Sony was going to do everything in its power to meet that higher demand with higher production. But we also know that PS5 pre-orders sold out immediately. You might be wondering how those sales compare to early orders for the PS4. It turns out that Sony sold more PS5s in a day than it did PS4s over that platform’s first 12 weeks!
Sony Sold More PS5s in a Day Than PS4s in 12 Weeks
PlayStation boss Jim Ryan was talking with Reuters. The site reported, “Sony pre-sold as many PS5 consoles in the first 12 hours in the United States as in the first 12 weeks for its predecessor PlayStation 4 device, Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said in an interview.” Reuters quoted Ryan as saying, “The demand as expressed by the level of pre-order has been very, very considerable … It may well be that not everybody who wants to buy a PS5 on launch day will be able to find one.”
There are two versions of the PlayStation 5. One is the full version that retails for $499.99. The other is the digital-only version that costs just $399.99. Both will release on November 12th. Regardless of which version you are interested in, you will probably have a hard time ordering it on launch day, and possibly even the weeks that follow. So, keep a close eye on the sales pages at retail stores online. For more updates on PS5, you can check out our PlayStation news.
