Insomniac Games’ upcoming title Spider-Man PS4 (confusingly named Marvel’s Spider-Man) has officially gone gold, according to the developers themselves on their Twitter account.
When a game goes gold, it means that it is no longer being developed by the studio and is officially “completed”. This means it’s ready to be sent off for manufacturing and produced onto discs to be sent all around the world to retailers in time for release day.
Of course, going gold doesn’t mean that the game is bug free, but in a state that the developers know is perfect enough for players to begin using. Going gold does not mean that patches and updates will not happen, they definitely will.
Insomniac Games announced the news in an extremely funny way, creating a real-life model of the famous Spider-Man meme in which he looks like he doesn’t know what he’s doing. This might be a two-sided joke, hinting that Insomniac don’t quite know what to do now that the game is ready for release in 39 days on September 7th, 2018.
We are pleased to announce that #SpiderManPS4 has GONE GOLD for its worldwide release on September 7th. Thanks to @PlayStation and @MarvelGames for their support in the creation of this original Spider-Man adventure. pic.twitter.com/iD4mJmqGfK

Spider-Man PS4 is a PlayStation 4 exclusive title developed by Ratchet & Clank and Sunset Overdrive developers Insomniac Games. It features a cast including the likes of Yuri Lowenthal as Peter Parker, Laura Bailey as Mary Jane Watson, Stephen Oyoung as Mister Negative, and more.
The game prides itself on a brand new web-slinging system – which fans are adoring – and allowing Spider-Man to get the spotlight in a world full of Marvel superheroes that could instead help the game sell more copies. One fan who played the Spider-Man PS4 demo 8 times was incredibly over hyped for the upcoming launch.
“I can’t [*&^%]ing wait for September. I honestly miss the game already. I did pretty much everything in the demo, but those couple things like all the backpacks and the chemical research station are pretty much keeping me up at night. There’s honestly so much to do in this demo, which is why I was able to come back so many times without getting bored. I feel like Insomniac really knocked it out of the park with this one, and you can bet your ass I’m gonna be first in line on September 7th.”
