Sony have been marketing Marvel’s Spider-Man, developed by Insomniac, very heavily recently with a wave of advertisements, and even an E3-exclusive physical copy of the Daily Bugle – one of Peter Parker’s jobs is a photographer for that newspaper in canon. Those who were lucky enough to get a hold of one have dissected each article and photo to find hints towards multiple Marvel characters and locations such as Iron Man, the Avengers Mansion, Daredevil, Black Cat and more.
At E3, a new gameplay demo for Spider-Man PS4 introduced players to 5 new villains that will be featured in the game. These included Scorpion, Rhino, Mr Negative (who was previously revealed), Electro, and the Vulture. These villains aren’t the only confirmed characters – with the likes of Miles Morales, MJ Watson, Norman Osborn, the Shocker, and Kingpin. Insomniac also recently stated at their E3 panel that there are “more villains in the game” than we think.
The Daily Bugle newspapers were filled with easter eggs and references to characters and locations from other Marvel comics, spotted by IGN.
The Avengers Tower has been confirmed to exist in the game for months, and those who played the E3 demo even have screenshots of it. We still do not know what it will be used for, if at all, in the game. However, this isn’t the only reference to the Avengers. The newspaper lists a For Sale ad which showcases the Avengers’ headquarters in the comics, Avengers Mansion.
This listing also references a “prolific NYC industrialist” which is obviously the one and only Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man. We do not know as of yet whether or not Iron Man will make an appearance in the game, or whether this is just for fun. With the relationship between the pair on-screen with Homecoming and Infinity War, it wouldn’t be impossible to see it presented in video game form.
The newspaper also features an advertisement for Nelson & Murdock, with the latter referencing Matt Murdock – the Daredevil himself. It’s most likely that this one is just a fun reference, but the pair do have a history in the comics, so it isn’t entirely out of the equation.
The Daily Bugle is full of these hidden easter eggs, with references to Black Cat and Norman Osborn too. These characters were already confirmed prior to be in the game, anyway – Black Cat will have her own DLC after the game launches on September 7, exclusive to PlayStation 4.
