Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the huge new Star Wars game from Respawn Entertainment, finally launched earlier today on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The game is Respawn’s first major story-driven game since Titanfall 2. In fact, the new title has, thus far, enjoyed a very positive reception from critics and gamers alike. Indeed, early reviews for the new game have been almost universally positive.
The Launch of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
First announced at E3 2018, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is Respawn Entertainment’s first story-driven single-player game since Titanfall 2. That 2016 release was a major commercial failure, largely due to the poor decisions of EA, the game’s publisher. Titanfall 2 was a critical success but suffered from poor sales figures due to its release coinciding with that of both new Call of Duty and Battlefield titles. After Titanfall 2, Respawn released a Titanfall mobile game in 2017, and then Apex Legends earlier this year; a surprise hit which briefly challenged Fortnite.
While it only became available today, Fallen Order’s reception from gamers and critics has already been highly positive. The game’s PC and console versions currently have average review scores on Metacritic of 84, 84, and 90. Meanwhile, the user rating score is equally high. Its success further highlights the trend in recent years of the growing popularity of narrative-driven, single-player story titles. Following the commercial and critical success of God of War in 2018, the gaming industry began to pivot more towards similar releases;indeed, Spider-Man, Red Dead Redemption 2, and now Fallen Order have all followed in that trend.
More reviews for the game will be releasing over the coming days, as more and more people get their hands on the game. Of course, it remains to be seen whether the game will be a commercial success, in addition to a critical one. However, at present, that certainly seems to be a very likely possibility.
