Streamlabs, which already offers a variety of free streaming services via their desktop app, has formed a new partnership with the goal of helping streamers to earn a living. The company has announced this new partnership with loots; a partnership which will enable users of Streamlabs OBS to make use of sponsored messaging in their streams.
Streamlabs’ New Partnership with loots and What it Means for Streamers
Streamlabs’ new partnership with loots adds a new revenue-generating option for streams using Streamlabs OBS; “Sponsored Messaging from loots works by giving viewers the ability to send a note to the broadcaster immediately following an advertising-supported message,” explains Streamlabs; “The advertiser bears the expense of the message in exchange for 15 seconds of screen time on the live stream. The broadcaster will receive revenue for providing the advertising space.”
The new loots service is free to download on the Streamlabs App Store; the first app which is totally free for streamers. Streamlabs hopes that the app will enable content creators to grow their channel and build their audience, while earning a slightly more reliable living. Revenue will be determined through an algorithm which will assess a streamer’s channel continuously. It will assess based on four factors; the number of viewers watching when a Sponsored Message occurs, the engagement from viewers, the regions and demographics the stream goes out to, and the language the stream is in.
At present, and to ensure that revenue is sustainable, the maximum income earned per month through loots is $3,000 USD. The maximum amount in a single 24-hour span is $100 USD. The actual sponsors working with loots vary, but include both AAA publishers and smaller indie studios. As Streamlabs says, as the streaming industry evolves, streamers can’t rely solely on donations; “As this industry evolves,” they explain; “streamers can’t rely solely on donations and a consistent source of revenue becomes increasingly important. This partnership will allow loots to directly reach over 3M quarterly active streamers using Streamlabs OBS and provides them with yet another way to help streamers make a living doing what they love.”
