We have heard price estimates all over the place for the PlayStation 5. Recently, a former Xbox employee stated he expected the cost not to exceed $500. Now, we have another reason to believe that the possible cost for the PS5 could come under $500. indeed, it seems that it could even be significantly lower than that.
Is This the Possible Cost for the PS5?
The hint at what the PS5 could cost came in the form of a Reddit post from a user called youessbee. The post had the title, “I took part in a survey about the price of the PS5.” The contents of the post were removed. But it stated that the user was asked during the survey how they felt about paying £349 ($435) for the PS5 or £259 ($323) for the digital edition.
Pricing the PS5 (and the Xbox Series X, for that matter) is a complex matter. On one hand, the sophisticated next gen hardware should theoretically command a high price. On the other hand, consumer expectations are essential to consider. So are demand issues which could result from COVID-19 suppressing economic activity. A lot of people are struggling just to pay rent right now. So, they will have a hard time affording a PS5 or Xbox Series X if the cost is too high. That means that the challenge is in striking the ideal balance to maximize sales and profits.
